About Us
IN A NUTSHELL

Our breeding program features some of the most outstanding does in the
Boer Breed. They all have tremendous pedigrees and many have won
numerous championships. However, our goal is to
produce champions.
Embryo Transfer has allowed us to do this on a grand scale, and this
enables us to sell outstanding individuals. Check out our website, call, or
stop by for information on fullblood breeding stock, percentages, and
wethers throughout the year. Look for the date of our annual August
production sale that features our E.T. offspring.

MORE ABOUT US

Phil and Mary Grover of Washington C. H., Ohio, have raised purebred
Polled Dorset Sheep under the Maple Grove Farm banner for 39 years.
They have also produced Tamworth Swine breeding stock for more than
40 years. Phil was the Ohio State Fair Swine Superintendent for 21 years.
Mary and daughters Cindi, Cathy and Carole all assisted in the State Fair
operation.

Phil is a retired Professor from The Ohio State University. He has judged
sheep and swine shows for many years and has been a ring man, and
announcer at the Mid West Stud Ram Show & Sale in Sedalia, Missouri
for more than 25 years.

It was at Sedalia when Phil and Mary first became aware of the Boer
Goats. Boers were added to the sheep sale in 1997. Then too, Phil found
out some of his Ohio sheep and swine friends had purchased some
percentage Boers.

After some conversation with family members in 2002 it was decided that
the youngest Grover grandchildren should exhibit Boer wethers and
breeding stock. In November 2002 Phil and Mary spent four days in Texas
visiting nine ranches recommended by George Alschwede. They
purchased several full blood and percentage bred does which were
delivered to Louisville at the time of the Livestock Show. These purchases
came from Powell-Holman, Ann & Hugh Schafer, Norman Kohls and
daughter Kallie York, and Schwartz Ranch. The first kidding season was
very successful.

It was during the week of Sedalia 2003 that Phil, Mary and grandson Philip
spent many hours drawing up plans for a joint venture in the Boer business.
Youngest daughter, Carole, had become very interested as well and she
and her husband Vic have purchased some Boers with the immediate
intent to raise and sell wethers for Jr. Fair projects. It was Carole who
came up with the name of Buckeye-Illini Genetics, (BIG).

Grandson Phil Myers graduated from Western Illinois University after
attending Black Hawk East from 2001 thru 2003. He was a member of the
livestock judging team at both institutions and has now returned home as a
consultant to the herd. He is also an approved judge for the International
Boer Goat Association and has judged numerous shows throughout the
country.

Buckeye-Illini Genetics successfully participated in their first embryo
transfer program in 2003. Since that first flush the ET program has grown
to include over 20 outstanding donor females and has produced numerous
champion winners.
